After defeating Devon in the first round of the John’s Trophy 3 weeks ago, Someret took on Worcestershire at the Cotswold Bowls Club on Saturday.  With one rink having minor changes made from the previous game we played in glorious sunshine and on a well prepared green, thanks to the Cotswold green keeper.  The ladies started the match with passion and flare as they finished the last 5 ends of the previous Devon game, and after 10 ends we were 31 shots up with 4 rinks winning.  They continued the game with the same enthusiasm and finished winning on 5 rinks with a margin of 51 shots.  This gave Somerset another 20 points in the league to now finish on top with one more game to go in 2 weeks time against Cornwall @ Honiton.    Top rink of the day went to the newly formed rink of Mary Sutton x 16 shots!

After a delayed start due to unfortunate circumstances at Clevedon Bowls Club, the Somerset team took to the green to play Gloucestershire.  With a positive warm-up and team talk the ladies started well with Laura Holden’s rink 10-0 up after the first few ends to win 20-11.  Stef Branfield clawed her way back from a 5-0 deficit at the beginning to win on her rink 20-16 and the extra end.

Many congratulations to all the players for a magnificent weekend of bowls, to the reserves and standby reserves that supported the teams, to all the spectators who travelled to support the teams on both days and to both clubs for providing an excellent playing surface for the teams to play on.  Not forgetting the selectors and hard working match secretary as well – thankyou.
