Report following SBA John’s Trophy match v Devon on Saturday 1st June 2019 @ Clevedon B.C. Somerset 128 shots – Devon 118 shots.

After 2 days of trials and one squad day of fun and team bonding, the 2019 SBA John’s team was ready for their campaign playing Devon on Saturday 1st June.   With beautiful weather, a well prepared green at Clevedon Bowls Club and an emotional warm up with music from the legacy of Hilary May MBE (previous team manager), the players set to their ‘job of the day’.

After 10 ends the team were 17 shots up, but Devon rallied round to reduce the deficit to go 3 shots up after 18 ends.  The remaining 3 ends were played with great team spirit and passion from Somerset with Laura Holden scoring 11 shots against international Natalie Chestney, Stef Branfield 6, Marilyn Gozna 4, Kirsty Hembrow 3  and Elaine Amery holding her own against a strong side skipped by international Sophie Tolchard, resulting in a 10 shot win.    WELL DONE ladies.

Thank you to Clevedon Bowls Club for hosting the game and for ALL THE MANY SUPPORTERS who came to encourage the players on throughout the day which was much appreciated.   Next match:  Saturday 22 June @ Cotswold Bowls Club v Worcestershire.
