Somerset’s Ilminster Bowling Club are in receipt of not One but Two Prestigious awards made annually to amateur Sports Clubs.
Firstly, following selection as runner-up in 2017, Ilminster go one better this year to be awarded the Bowls England ‘Club of the Year’ for 2018. The prestigious title, generously supported by Drakes Pride, is awarded annually to the club that is judged to have shown the greatest efforts to promote the club, increase membership and work with the local community. Ilminster BC demonstrated continued improvement to beat off stiff competition from runners-up Peacehaven & Telscombe BC (Sussex) to claim the title.
Ilminster BC is very active on social media and engages regularly with the local press, radio and TV. The club has strategic advertising banners within the town, in addition to using the free Bowls England recruitment material to great success. In the last 12 months, the club has gained four new sponsors and have created a collaboration with Ilminster Town Council to become a polling station for local and general elections.
As winners, Ilminster BC will receive:
• £250 cash • Four sets of Drakes Pride Bowls • The Tony Allcock Trophy • Two Free Tickets to the Bowls England Men’s Annual Dinner & Prize Presentation • Bowls England Pennant, Club of the Year Flag and Framed Certificate • A badge for each club member • A match against a visiting Bowls England President’s Team.
The Club will receive the prize package and Tony Allcock Trophy at the Bowls England Men’s Presentation Dinner in Feb 2019.
Ilminster also had success recently with the local Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership (SASP), receiving the SASP Somerset Sports Awards ‘Club of the Year 2018’ award, in competition with many local sports clubs, mostly from mainstream sports including Football; Cricket; and clubs representing all major sports.
